Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind

Program works to supply service dogs for the blind, visually impaired, and those with special needs at no cost. Each applicant is teamed with a guide dog that best suits that person’s personality, lifestyle, and physical needs. The accredited two-week guide dog training program offers a 2:1 student/instructor ratio and focuses on incorporating a blend of customized training formats to meet the specific lifestyles and needs of students while maximizing the training time in class for students and their dogs as they prepare for real-world situations. Uses Raise A Puppy program where puppy raisers provide a loving home for Foundation puppies until the dogs are old enough to enter the certified training programs. Puppy raisers take home a 7-week-old puppy and care for it until it is between 14 and 18 months old. Program also provides after care within the client’s home after the guide dog has been placed. Must be able to attend training at the Foundation’s headquarters.
