DAEOC – Community Action Agency

Provides multiple services to households that are considered low income in Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi, Dunklin, Stoddard and Pemiscot Counties. Seasonal utility assistance is provided in the summer and winter for heating and cooling costs. Amount of assistance varies by season and program. Sikeston outreach office located at 620 S. Kingshighway serves Scott, Stoddard and Mississippi counties.

The Child Care Food Program serves in home day care providers by providing nutritional meals and snacks to the children in their care. Program covers 14 counties in Southeast Missouri

A Life Skills program is offered to youth and adults to increase knowledge in areas that will allow them to move toward self-sufficiency. Classes are offered on a variety of topics included but not limited to financial literacy, improving self-esteem, job readiness/job search, leadership development, entrepreneurship development, health/nutrition, parenting skills, time management, stress/anger management, classroom bullying, conflict resolution, goal setting, assertiveness, energy savings tips, youth structured and adult workshops.

Making The Grade program is a six-session curriculum for 5th – 8th grade students to encourage students to set and achieve goals, including goals beyond high school.

Stand Up Step Out program is a three month program in which participants will be provided with the skills/competencies required to obtain employment. Includes classroom time and on the job training that is paid a stipend.

Early Head Start for children birth to age 3 and Head Start for children ages 3-5 are provided to support mental, social, educational and emotional development of children in the programs.
Also offers adult education in a variety of areas and digital literacy class.

DAEOC serves as the lead agency for the Region 6 Coordinated Entry System and provides a centralized intake and housing assessment for individuals and families who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness. The Homeless Department can help with a housing assessment and provide resources or financial assistance for those facing a homeless situation. Program covers Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi, Dunklin, Stoddard and Pemiscot Counties. The Homeless Department also provides a homeless shelter in Sikeston that operates from a waiting list.

Home repair services are provided to rehabilitate owner-occupied homes to reduce health and safety hazards, increase energy efficiency, address handicap accessibility needs, reduce the risk associated with lead based paint, and reduce the burden of home energy costs on low-income families. The program targets very low to moderate income individuals, elderly, and the disabled. Home must be owner occupied and taxes must be current for the program. Proof of income, insurance, ownership, and tax receipts are required when application is made.
