National Eye Care Project
Nationwide program dedicated to providing medical and surgical eye care to the financially disadvantaged elderly population. The program is designed so that volunteer ophthalmologists can provide eye care at no out-of-pocket cost to the individual regardless of insurance coverage (or lack thereof). In order to qualify for this program, the patient must be at least 65 years of age, have citizenship or legal residency in the United States, must demonstrate a need for financial aid, and must have no access to an ophthalmologist or an alternative method of receiving care (e.g., HMO, veteran’s hospital). Program activities include patient advocacy, patient and general education, brochures, pamphlets, and referrals. Visit the website at https://rarediseases.org/organizations/national-eye-care-project/
