Aging Matters

Agency provides services for seniors age 60 and older in 18 county area of Southeast Missouri. Programs include: Nutrition program and senior centers, long term care Ombudsman Program, in home services, legal assistance, medication, financial counseling, assistance with hearing aids, books on tape for the handicapped, health promotion, Medicare Prescription Drug Program and Medicare counseling, application assistance for Extra Help programs and the Missouri Senior Rx Program. Can assist those age 18-59 with Medicare related questions.
Other services include:  Senior Medical Patrol (SMP) that encourages seniors to monitor Medicaid/ Medicare EOB’s for fraudulent physician charges on services not rendered. Also offers transportation and tax information. The Family Caregiver Support Program is free for those that qualify and covers 18 counties. Program is for those who are an unpaid caregiver age 18 and over caring for a senior that is age 60 and over.  Services under this program include respite care, supply assistance such as incontinent supplies or nutritional supplements and a Balance Program that educates caregivers about stress. Also offers Distance Dining Program. Program provides home-delivered meals for rural residents age 63 and over who reside in rural areas where senior centers do not deliver. Recipients must qualify for Medicaid. Meals are delivered by FEDEX in packs of 15 frozen meals weekly or as client requests. Also provides homemaker/chore service for those 60 and over. Services are 2 hours per week. Program usually has a waiting list. Hearing aid program works with Miracle Ear to help those age 60 and over with the cost of hearing assessments and hearing aids. Program is for those with income up to 300% of federal poverty guidelines.
Agency also offers a transportation program for seniors 60 and over who need help with transportation to medical appointments. Senior must find their own driver. The program reimburses 16 cents per mile. Trip has to be more than 20 miles from home. Patient’s spouse cannot be the driver and the amount cannot exceed $40.  All services begin by calling the office.  More details can be found on the website:  http://www.agingmatters2u.com
