Aging Matters

Agency provides services for seniors age 60 and older in 18 county area of Southeast Missouri. Programs include: Nutrition program and senior centers, home delivered meals, long term care Ombudsman Program, in home services, financial counseling, books on tape, health promotion, medication, Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Medicare counseling, application assistance for Extra Help and Medicaid programs. Can assist those age 18-59 with Medicare related questions.

Other services include: 
Family Caregiver support group for those who are an unpaid caregiver age 18 and over caring for a senior age 60 and over. Services are free and include respite care, supply assistance such as incontinent supplies or nutritional supplements, and a Balance Program that educates caregivers about stress.
Distance Dining Program provides home delivered meals for rural residents age 63 and over who reside in rural areas where senior centers do not deliver. Recipients must qualify for Medicaid. Meals are delivered by FEDEX in packs of 15 frozen meals weekly or as client requests.
Homemaker service for those 60 and over. Services are a few hours per week. Program usually has a waiting list.
Technology program partnering with Senior Planet. Technology classes available at no cost throughout all 18 counties.
Transportation program for seniors 60 and over who need help with transportation. For those with their own transportation, the program can reimburses 16 cents per mile and trip has to be more than 20 miles from home and the amount cannot exceed $40. For those with no personal transportation, program works with Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority to provide free or discounted transportation. Rides can be used for medical purposes, shopping and other necessary services.
Aging RX program provides seniors age 60 and over in Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry and Scott counties with financial assistance for expensive medications. Some maximum payout limits apply.
