Community Counseling Center

Provides comprehensive behavioral health and prevention services for adults, adolescents and children. Services include crisis intervention services, psychiatric services, community rehabilitation center, Louis Masterman Center, supportive community living, psychosocial rehabilitation program, targeted case management, in-home services, children’s services, EAP Program and educational services.

Community Counseling Center also sponsors the Peer Impact Center at 416 S. Kingshighway. The Center is peer-managed and provides a place for people with mental health issues to go for peer support, support groups and activities. Also has a computer lab with instruction. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 9:30am-4:30pm and can be reached by phone at 573-803-0322.

Emergency Room Enhancement Program for those with a mental health diagnosis, evidence of a diagnosable disorder or substance use disorders who seek treatment at emergency rooms 3 or more times in a 3 month period. The program targets high utilizers of emergency rooms and and law enforcement services.  The program works to increase access to appropriate resources, remove barriers to treatment, reduce emergency room hospital usage, increase mental and physical health, decrease homelessness and increase stability in the community. Participants must be 18 and older, reside in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Perry, Madison and Ste. Genevieve counties, be un-insured or under-insured, live below federal poverty level and be homeless or in unstable living conditions. Case management services are provided to stabilize the client’s situation. Some funding is available to assist when no other community resources are available.

CoNEXTions Street Outreach Program provides a combination of street based and drop-in services to the youth on the Southside of Cape Girardeau who are runaway, homeless and/or street youth that have been victimized by extreme poverty, domestic violence, crime, substance use, adolescent pregnancy, and have been subject to or are at-risk of being subject to sexual abuse, prostitution, sexual exploitation, and severe forms of trafficking. The program focuses on individuals 12 – 21 years of age who are runaway, homeless, at-risk of homelessness, or youth that spend a great deal of time on the street. Services include: education/prevention to youth at-risk of or victims of sexual abuse, prostitution, sexual exploitation and/or trafficking while increasing daily living skills to promote positive life experiences,  reduce barriers to education/vocational; medical; behavioral health; and/or victimization treatment services by completing thorough comprehensive assessment on program youth to evaluate the need for referral and when identified, provide a referral to such services, and to provide increased access to safe shelter and/or other safe haven for street youth by increasing the number of youth accepting safe shelter through services offered 24/7, such as crisis intervention. Center is located at 402 S. Sprigg and is open Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm for walk ins or by phone 573-803-1210.

Cottonwood Residential Treatment center is a 16 bed residential treatment facility operated by Community Counseling Center. The program services children and adolescents ages 7 to 18. Intensive mental health services provided as an alternative to hospitalization. Services include psychiatry, individual, family and group therapy, nursing and medical services. Onsite educational services are provided.
