Provides services to low income individuals and families in Cape Girardeau, Perry, Ste. Genevieve, Bollinger, Iron, Madison, St. Francois, and Washington counties. Provides utility assistance programs in the summer and winter and some rental assistance when funds are available. Additional programs include: Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program for the counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Pemiscot, Perry, St. Francois, Ste, Genevieve, and Stoddard. Head Start child development program for children ages 3-5 can be found in each county. Weatherization Program is designed to reduce the impact of high home energy costs for low-income home owners by providing home repairs and improvements. Women’s Wellness Centers provide confidential reproductive health care services at three locations: Park Hills, Cape Girardeau, and Fredericktown. Health services are offered at low or no cost utilizing a sliding fee scale. Employment services are offered through the Skill Up program. The program is designed for Food Stamp (SNAP) recipients, ages 16-59 to help with skills, training, and employer connections. Free tax preparation is available through the VITA program. Volunteers can prepare and electronically file Federal and State taxes for low-income households. They also prepare the Missouri Property Tax Credit (MO-PTC) for elderly and/or disabled households. The Summer Food Service Program offers food during the summer to children through age 18, as well as disabled adults ages 18-21 who are enrolled in public or private school during the regular school year.
