Midwest Special Needs Trust

Midwest Special Needs Trust (MSNT) provides trust services for persons with disabilities. Special needs trusts are a type of trust specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. If properly structured and administered, special needs trusts do not affect an individual’s eligibility for benefits such as SSI or Medicaid. Trusts ensure that additional funds are available for future use for the person with a disability.

MSNT also operates two grant programs that provide financial assistance to impoverished residents of Missouri with a Social Security verifiable disability.  Two types of grants are available through the program, General Charitable Grants and Urgent Grants. General grants are available for a wide range of needs including medical or dental care, personal goods and services, rehabilitation, education and transportation. Grants are awarded quarterly and the maximum amount is $1500. Urgent grants are available only for medical or health care needs that require immediate intervention. Urgent grants are awarded bi-weekly. Missouri residents who are US citizens are eligible to apply for either grant. Both grants require a verifiable disability defined as mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, meet income guidelines established by the Midwest Special Needs Trust and receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and have no other available funding source. Grants can be used for medical and dental care or equipment not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. Grants can also help with rehabilitation training, services, devices, personal goods and services or equipment needed to enhance quality of life that are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.
